Collect - College Libraries Central is an Ontario wide college library project supported by the College Heads of Libraries and Learning Resources (HLLR), through the Ontario Colleges Library Service (OCLS).
Initially known as Bibcat, then simply as Colleges Union Catalogue (CUC), Ontario college libraries have maintained a union catalogue of bibliographic records for print material for decades. In 2012, the HLLR Steering Group initiated a plan to explore environments that would house and support the discovery of a broader range of materials belonging to Ontario College Libraries, including eBooks, digital media and alternate format materials. Out of this initiative Collect was developed.
Collect – College Libraries Central is a fully functional digital repository capable of holding more than just bibliographic records. Currently in its pilot phase, Collect facilitates discovery and system wide access to resources by providing link back functionality to individual library catalogues. Additional functionality enables users to filter by subject, college, date and medium, and to leverage advanced search capabilities. The ability to add materials to a cart and to obtain bibliographic citations in multiple styles provides additional value to users.
In the future, the HLLR Steering Group anticipates housing shared ebooks, ebook metadata, information literacy objects and/or shared materials in alternate formats.
